Point
Share local culture and support small businesses in order to create a personalized traveling experience. We realize how much more convenient traveling could be if you had a friend living there who could give you some simple tips and advice, or could even take you around for a bit. So we created the app Point, to connect tourists with locals living in the area, who can act as a personal friend and tour guide for your trip. Through Point, we seek to create new friendships and relationships and even make it easier to meet new people.
Concept
The idea for this project began with mutual interests in traveling and moving to new places upon graduation. There were already several apps made to ease the traveling experience, so we created a concept diagram in order to find a product opportunity gap. We then looked into existing apps and tested them out to better understand what about them was working and what was not. This diagram was critical in discovering what our focus would be and all the factors that we could be affecting.
Customer Journey Map
The customer journey map on the left maps Point's tourist user experience. After several interviews and surveys of travelers, we visualized the thinking, feeling, and doing that goes on from the planning of a trip to the return from the trip. This highlighted the areas that needed work and produced the most frustration for the user. The map on the right is a map of Point's guide experience. Because a Point guide has a very different experience from the user, we created a separate interface so the guide could better manage their rewards and working hours. The customer journey maps led us to a lo-fi prototype that we could user test and gather feedback.
Business Plan
A revenue hypothesis, expected revenue growth, and expected growth calculations were made to propose our business plan to interested investors. Point provides users with information and services quickly and efficiently in turn for a monthly subscription fee. Local business are also promoted and referred through the app in turn for an advertisement fee. Promotions are linked to the user's referral code, providing a commission to the employee.
Branding
Upon refining the lo-fi prototype and user flows, we created an identity for Point. Using A/B testing, mood boards, and surveys, we created the hi-fi prototype through a clickable prototyping program.
